Privacy policy
Last updated: July 2026
Folkdrop.app lets people place one daily cultural signal and receive a generated positioning card. This policy explains what we collect and why.
Data we collect
- Account data, such as email, username and login provider, when you create an account or use Google login.
- Drop data, such as the text or link you submit, selected kind, tags, generated card and timestamps.
- Anonymous recovery data, through a first-party cookie, so you can find your cards before creating an account.
- Technical data, such as IP address, browser, security logs and basic request metadata needed to operate and protect the service.
How we use data
- To save and recover your drops and generated cards.
- To calculate aggregate cultural positioning and future statistics.
- To prevent abuse, rate-limit requests and secure the app.
- To improve the product using aggregated or technical information.
Location data
Location is optional. If you allow precise location, your device provides coordinates. If you choose approximate location, we derive a less precise estimate from connection information such as your IP address. If you continue without location, no location is attached to the drop.
We use location only to show your private map pin to you and to calculate aggregated geographic statistics. Exact coordinates are visible only to the card owner. Other users see only sufficiently large, approximate clusters.
Location data is retained only for as long as the related card exists. It is deleted when that card and its underlying drop are deleted.
Public sharing
When you share a card, the card page and preview image are public to anyone with the link. Raw private account details are not shown on the public card page.
Cookies
We use necessary first-party cookies for login, security, language preferences and anonymous card recovery. If you accept analytics, we may also use Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to measure aggregate product usage. See the cookie policy for more detail.
Your choices
You may use Folkdrop anonymously with a recovery cookie, but logging in is safer if you want to keep cards across devices. You may request access, correction or deletion of your personal data.
